The story behind the name · since 2008
A studio became a person.
For years this said “Matthias Eger Design Studio” — a “we” of partners, web design, shops, print and photography. Today one name stands for the work. Not smaller, but sharper: one person, one focus, one judgement that someone stands behind.
Where it comes from
The studio that was a “we”.
The claim back then stood large on the home page: “We create clever IT solutions.” Behind it a small, familiar circle — and a broad offering, as you'd expect from an agency.
A jack-of-all-trades stall in the best sense: web design & online shops, branding & corporate identity, print and media design, SEO & online marketing and professional photography. Plus a team happy to be named: Matthias as owner and founder, Christopher as a freelancer for social media and coaching — and Eddy, the guard dog, officially responsible for “security and debt collection”.
It was honest work and over 312 projects since 2008 — from the trades workshop to the hospital. But the “we” struck a tone that no longer rang true: of agency, of “we can do everything”. Neither was ever quite true.
“We can do everything” became “I solve the one thing”.
A broad offering reassures the provider, not the customer. Whoever offers everything owns nothing. The cut was a decision for clarity — and for responsibility with a name.
The word was there all along: “Operator”.
In the old self-description I already called myself an “operator who acts directly at the scene and lends a hand there too”. Back then a subordinate clause — today the core of the offer.
The personA name is verifiable. A “we” is not.
Behind the studio there was always one person with partners. I now spare myself that detour: one name, one liability policy, one open verification record — instead of a collective no one can pin down.
The focusTools are interchangeable. The judgement is not.
Plenty can build websites and shops today, AI speeds up the rest. The bottleneck in a business is no longer the technology, but the skill and the decision. That is exactly where the focus has moved.
A different name. The same hand.
It's not a fresh start from zero — the same business, the same tax number, the same values. Only the offering has been sharpened and the tone has become honest.
The stance: straight talk instead of jargon, honest and direct, a familial collaboration as equals. The clients, some for over a decade. The over 312 projects as a store of experience. And the sentence that has always held: better to forgo revenue when it helps the customer more.
The agency “we” becomes one person with a name. The broad catalogue of services becomes one focus: AI that genuinely works in the business. “We implement” becomes accountability for the judgement — the AI delivers the draft, the judgement stays with me. Web design, print and photography are no longer a shop window of their own, but a craft that flows into the work.
Where the studio lives on
Nothing is lost — it just moves.
The work from the studio era is not deleted, but integrated. Anyone coming from medesignstudio.de lands exactly where the matching service lives today.
Earlier projects and clients — as real cases.
Shops, platforms, brands and photo commissions still stand by name. Photography is honestly labelled as photography, not relabelled as an IT project.
BuildingShops, tools, interfaces — today with an AI pipeline.
What used to be called web design and software development runs today leaner and faster under Implementation. Fixed price per milestone, and everything belongs to you.
ShopsOpenCart work lives on as its own service page.
The grown shop craft from the studio era has stayed — core, performance, migration, extensions, ERP connection, and, on request, AI in your installation.
